Wayne Kulig, Gun Captain
The Potomac Valley Golden Retriever Club is pleased to host the Golden Retriever Club of America’s 2017 National Specialty in Salisbury, Maryland. The theme of our 2017 National Specialty is “Paws ‘n’ Claws”, reflecting the relationship between the Golden Retriever and the ambiance of the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
This National Specialty will occur from September 22 through September 30, 2017. We anticipate that there will be approximately 2,500 Golden Retrievers from within the continental United States as well as international participants entering Conformation, Obedience, Tracking, Agility, and Field events of which we expect that approximately 750 Golden Retrievers will be entered in Working Certificate/Working Certificate Excellent tests, Hunt Tests at all levels, and Field Trials. These field events will be held on country properties in Dorchester and Talbot counties. I have been asked to serve as Gun Captain for the field events.
The reason that I am sending out this initial "Call for Gunners" in December is because I know from personal experience that there will be much animated conversation over the coming holiday dinner tables about the success and disappointments of dog tests, duck hunts, bird hunts, elk hunts, etc. during the 2016 season. This will also be the time when we start identifying our 2017 vacation "wish list" and contemplating/locking in dates for the 2017 fall hunting season.
We will issue a monthly gunners' call update so that you have the latest information on gunning for the 2017 National Specialty field events. Please advise if you will be running a dog so that we can schedule your gunning assignment in the same venue. Gunning will be exclusively with the 12 gauge shotgun, and ammunition will be provided. You must have a current (2017) hunting license from your state of residence or from the state of Maryland. More details will be provided as we get into 2017. During various hunt tests and training days over these past few months, many of you indicated your interest in participating, so now is the time to make it official!
The following is a summation of the field events and the Field Event Chairs with the respective dates and location of each event:

- 9/24 WC/WCX: Rita Bumgardner & Judy Gladson, vicinity of Vienna, MD.
